Thanks for confirming, that helps! Look for the 8.5.4 update. I’m 100% sure that’ll fix the syntax error as I was able to replicate the error when I loaded the French translation. I’m going to mark this as resolved for now.

Yeah, sounds like timing of updates/crossed with timing adding a new user crossed paths pointing to Connections… it happens. If you do end up determining that there is a Connections conflict, let me know. At this point it definitely sounds like an error in the theme. A javascript error.

Hmmm… this is third third report of this today even though the code has not change between this and the last version. [Another user even went thru the trouble of comparing the two versions to determine that](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/parse-error-syntax-error-in-classsettingsphp).

So far the only common denominator between two of the three is the French translation is being used. I am assuming your are using the French translation based on the error message. Is my assumption correct? If that is the case, I did just update the French translation this last update… I might know what the fix is.

Well, no, that is very odd because even with Link installed Connections and Link do not interact with that page at all… no scripts, CSS, WP hooks or anything.

The fact that the button does not do anything when clicked tells me there is a fatal javascript error on the page, something I do not see how Connections could possible cause since it does not load any scripts on the page.

Something is definitely weird though if switching theme’s fix it…

Here’s a test for you to try…

We know that switching theme’s work fine. How about leaving the theme activate and deactivating Connections. Does that allow you to add a user? If it does not, then the error is not from Connections since it is not activated. Now, if it does fix the issue, I’ll need a temp WP admin login so I can take a closer look to see how this is happening and fix it.

Yes, definitely. You can mod both the card.php and card-single.php files in this way and those tweaks will be retained between updates. Works for the CSS and JS files too. Pretty much the only file you can not alter is circled.php.

Nope, will not work… the folder name is not actually even relevant. It could be named anything.

Yes, a major update to Circled is planned… adding support for the Template Customizer feature.

Try adding this to your shortcode: enable_category_multi_select=true so you have something like this:

[connections enable_category_multi_select=true]

Will that work?

If not, something more like what is used on https://sscit.org/ could be setup for you.

Something is change the shortcode to this:

[catégorie connexions = ‘2’ show_alphaindex = ‘true’ order_by = ‘département | SORT_DESC’ width = ‘450’]

The shortcode should be this:

[connections category='2' show_alphaindex='true' order_by='department|SORT_DESC']

I suggest not using the width option because that will break the responsive support.

As for as search… Connections does not integrate with the core WP search, nor will WP Ultimate Search work with it. This is because Connections ses its own custom tables which is optimized for directories. If you want search, you will need one of the templates sold on this site.

Recent version of Connections changed the way the single entry is displayed. Many users add “static” text and put the [connections] shortcode on the page multiple times so I ended up spending a lot of time explaining why the text was duplicated and why the entry appeared on the page multiple times when viewing a single entry. My fix was to replace all the page contents when viewing a single entry with just the entry. This is why your wrapper code is not there when viewing a single entry.

The only way to change this would be to remove the filter that does this. This should work:

Install the Code Snippets plugin.

Add a new snippet with the following code:

add_action( 'plugins_loaded', 'cn_remove_single_entry_shortcode_filter' );

function cn_remove_single_entry_shortcode_filter() {
    remove_filter( 'the_content', array( 'cnShortcode', 'single' ), 7 );
}

Save and activate the new snippet.
