re: Apparently the shortcode for LINK from last year had changed?

I’d have to research the history for you particular case but there are actually two shortcodes. The original (old) was either custom code implemented for you or added by a code snippet I gave you in this support forum.

The current (new) shortcode is the now officially supported version that I added to Link as a standard feature since more users have requested such a feature.

The shortcode names were different in order not to conflict for those using the old one off code snippets. Both should continue to work just fine together.

They basically do the same thing but the officially supported version is superior.

re: However, the FORM will not save. It simply goes back up to the top of the page with no message or function to having saved any edits.

This seems to indicate another plugin or perhaps the theme is causing a fatal javascript error on the page. Fatal javascript errors cause all javascript after the error not to run.

You can determine this by navigating to the page in Chrome, hitting the F12 key and then clicking the Console tab. All page errors will be listed there. Make an edit to the entry and then submit it. Any further errors will be listed, if any.

I did try to login so I could take a look but both logins were rejected.

If you can verify the logins, I will take a another look so I can help get this resolved for you.

    Here’s how…

    • Navigate to the Connections : Templates admin page.
    • Click the Customize button for cMap.
    • The page will reload with the Customizer on the left and a preview on the right.
    • Click the back arrow in the upper left of the Customizer.
    • Click the Category Select panel.
    • Disable the “Enable Category Filter” option
    • Click the Save and Publish button.
    • Exit the Customizer.

    Hope that helps!

    @ Christopher

This is due to the fact that you created separate pages for the different categories in Connections. That is fine but you left the category filter enabled on each of the pages… so even if you are on the dining page, you can use the category filter to display the worship category. Google will faithfully use that category filter and follow those links and index those pages.

The solution, you need to disable the category drop down filter. Eventually, Google will update its index with the correct links.

    Hope that helps!

re: I would like to have each doctor’s name connect to their own web page, rather than the detail view. I know this is possible need help tweaking the PHP to make this happen. I believe you answered this for someone else before but I can’t seem to find that entry again.

Here’s the post where I give some details on how to accomplish this.

I believe that post covers it all. Hope this helps!

    @ Mary

RE: is there a payment extension for new members signing up to join our association and is there a way to have them pay their renewals each year.

Sorry, no. But in my opinion this is a good thing. I recommend you use a membership plugin like Restrict Content Pro to manage membership payments and renewals. This greatly increases your ability to monetize your site where a director is just one benefit. There are other directory plugins which do integrate payments, but then you lock yourself into only being able to monetize your directory making it very difficult to expand member benefits.

RE: if a member wanted to update their information would they have to file a request for the admin to handle or can they update their own information.

You could manage that way it you wish. Alternative, you could use the Link extension. This would allow you to allow the user to maintain their own entry with or without moderation.

RE: is there a way to select a business to be featured on the homepage and can this business be easily changed each month?

Actually I have nothing available at the moment to do this, sorry.

I hope I have answered your questions thoroughly!

re: always an organization, always public visibility, only work addresses, etc.

This is possible by using filters. You would add these filters using the Code Snippets plugin.

Here’s a post where I give a snippet required to the Logo, Messenger IDs, Social Media IDs

Here’s a snippet I gave the which changes the default entry type to be only an individual. This can easily be adapted to make the entry type an organization instead.

Here’s a link to a tutorial which contains a snippet to add custom address types. The snippet can be adapted to remove the unneeded types. You can find similar tutorials in the tutorial section in the documentation.

The same snippets will also affect the Form extension.

re; Will the Form extension do this for external users with a directory listing? If they log in to adjust their existing entry, will just the form appear with their current information?

Sorry, I’m not sure what you are asking. When a user logs in and edit their entry, yes, the current details will be displayed in the form so they can change them. Just like the admin when you edit entries.

I hope this answers your questions!

ps. I do offer customization services if you require them.

Here’s a link to a tutorial which covers how to change the labels and pretty much any other string in Connections (exceptions are extension or template specific strings).

    Hope this helps!

re: Please do not tell me, this is the usual way! :)

No, not at all. My guess you ran into a bug introduced in WP 4.7.2.

I suspect you would not be able to upload the .csv file without first renaming it to .txt into the WP Media Library either, being rejected as an unsecure file type.

I worked around this bug in the CSV Import addon. I may have to do the same for the Import Categories tool as well.

    Apologies for the trouble!

in reply to: Custom Category Order #412780
    Steven Zahm

    @ Cait

The Custom Category Order extension does not change the order of the entries, it changes the order of the which the categories themselve are displayed. For example, try this. Navigate to the Connections : Categories admin page and scroll to the bottom of the list of categories. Edit that category changing its order to 1. After you save the change that category will now display at the top of the categories instead the bottom.

The only way to control the order the entries are displayed is to use the Custom Entry Order extension. There is no way to group the entry list by category, sorry.

Hope this answers you question thoroughly!
