This is a WordPress issue unrelated to Connections. I’ve actually never heard of this error before today (I think). I had to do a web search myself. Here’s a search link with many hits with other having the same issue recently.

It is very unlike the source is Connections. Only two pages would be impact by Connections in any meaningful way assuming your only have a single frontend directory page. The first page would be that frontend directory page. The other page would be the Connections : Manage page which is no more resource intensive than the WordPress Posts or Pages admin page.

There is one scenario in which you could exhaust serve resources. On the frontend directory page, if you are displaying a lot of entries. I recommend 20 for optimal performance though many users will load 50 to a 100 per page without performance being affected too much. This is not a Connections limitation of bug as the same would occur if one would try to load many WordPress posts on a single page.

You may have to better optimize your WordPress installation such as deactivating unnecessary plugins increase the PHP memory limit to 128MB or 256MB and change the max PHP execution to 300 seconds. If the PHP version that is being run is old such as 5.2–5.6 I very highly recommend changing it to 7.1. WordPress actually recommends 7.2 but most plugins have not yet caught up to 7.2 since it has only recently been released. Most web hosts provide a simple method in their control panel to switch PHP versions. If you are not running PHP 7.1 and switch to it you will receive a large performance boost while decreasing the required server resources.

Lastly, look at a caching plugin. I recommend WP Rocket. It’s simple, well support and generally just works.

Navigate to the WordPress Permalinks admin settings page and remove index.php from your permalinks structure. That will make it compatible with Connections and improve the SEO of your permalinks.

The only suggestion I have is to try to increase the max_execution_time from 30 to 300. My best guess is that what ever processes are being done are taking longer than the permitted 30 secs as 30 secs can be a little small of a value on a WordPress powered site.

The other suggestion is that WordPress recommends PHP 7.2. I actually would not recommend higher than 7.1 at this time as many plugins have not yet caught to the changes implemented in 7.2 since it was recently release. Most web hosts provide a way to change the PHP version in their control panel. I would look there. I would not say this is critical, but, PHP 7 is much faster and far more resource efficient.

After you increase the max_execution_time try the deactivate/delete/install again. I suspect that Connections is simply not being fully installed.

Never seen that before. What I can say is this would be unrelated to Connection as it has nothing to do with the WordPress install, install and delete processes.

I suspect insufficient resources allocated to PHP. Navigate to the Connections : Tools admin page and click the System Info tab. What does it say under the PHP Config section?

Many of the core Connections JavaScript libraries are being reported as 404 (Not Found) by your server. Load the directory page in Chrome, hit the F12 key and then click the Console tab to review those errors.

My first suggestion is to try deactivating and deleting the Connections plugin only. You data and settings are safe. After you delete, reinstall Connections. There is no need to delete the addon such as cMap.

If that does not correct it, log on to your site with FTP and make sure the files are in the folders. If they are missing WordPress is failing to properly install Connections. You’ll have to install it manually. Scroll down the the FAQ section on this page for the instructions.

If the files are in the folder then server configuration is preventing them from being served. If that is the case, you’ll have to contact you web host and asked why they are being blok and ask them to correct it.

RE: I do not know where to change this setting. We see the link to go to edit the user’s profile when logged in as the user, but it is not allowing that user to go there – we keep getting brought back to the front end “dashboard” page. This user is not allowed to see the actual wordpress dashboard at all.

I do not know the setting either … it is something that is configured with one of the other plugins. Be guss the WooCommerce memberships plugin. One of the other plugins that is installed is blocking access to the User’s admin profile page and redirecting the user to the dashboard page.

Like I mentioned, you’ll need to add frontend editing capabilities you’ll need the Form extension. To add frontend editing capabilities since the User’s admin profile page is blocked.

I logged in change the password to the skass**** user to the same password as you gave my account. I logged in as that user and it was indeed linked. Both the View My Directory Entry and the Edit My Entry links were shown. These would not show if they were not linked. What exactly is the issue? The one thing I see is that you’ve blocked access User’s admin profile page. So the user will not be able to edit their entry. To add frontend editing capabilities you’ll need the Form extension. I would have recommended it sooner but unfortunately our discussion has not taken us that direction until now.

ps. You can tell when an entry is link on the Connections : Manage admin page. Look at your test entry in the admin under the “Last Modified” column.

RE: I enabled the Beta and it didn’t make it show up.

Did you navigate to the Updates admin page and click the “Check Again” button. WP does a force refresh of plugin updates. Otherwise it can take up to 24 hours for an update to show.

RE: I was able to import all the entries and they are displaying on the back end. However, they are not showing up on the frontend on the Directory page.

If you are using page caching, flush it. Make sure the imported entries are “Public”. Check your shortcode that you used to embed the directory on the page. YOu could be excluding the new entries so they do not show.
