Overview
This page has been closely modelled after the WordPress Categories admin page for Posts in order to provide a uniform experience and to make it instantly recognizable to allow you to easily and quickly start adding your categories to the directory with confidence.
Important
Add New Category
This section allows you to add new categories to your directory. To add a new category you must give it a name. The other fields are optional. After you have added a category name, click the Add New Category button to complete adding a new category.
Name
This is the name of the category as how it will appear on your site. You are permitted to add duplicate category names, however, the category Slug must be unique. In most cases if you enter a duplicate name and leave the Slug blank a unique Slug will be created automatically.
Slug
The slug is the URL-friendly version of the name. It is all lowercase and contains only letters, numbers, and hyphens. If this field is left blank, which is recommended, a unique slug will automatically be created for you.
Parent
This field is optional but if a parent category is chosen from the drop down, the category being added will be a “child” of the “parent” category. This allows you to create a hierarchal (nested) category structure.
Description
Add relevant text and images to describe a category. To display the category description when the directory is being filtered by a category you need to enable it in the settings.
Category Table
This table lists all of your categories. Categories are displayed hierarchically (nested). Child categories are displayed beneath their parents and are indented by using dashes to represent the parent/child relationship of the categories. The default sorting is alphabetically by Name. You can sort the categories by their Slug, Description or Count by clicking the corresponding link in the table header.
Tip
Search
The keyword search field allows you to quickly search your categories.
Pagination
The pagination control informs you of how many categories there are. It also provides you with easy to use forward and back buttons and jump to beginning and jump to end buttons. To jump to a specific page you can enter the number in the page input and hit the Enter key.
Bulk Actions
These actions can be performed on one or more Categories at one time, if those categories have been previously selected.
To use the bulk actions, select the categories from the table using the checkbox on the left of the category row, choose the action to perform from the bulk action dropdown and then click the apply button.
The only bulk action available for categories is Delete.
Actions
These individual category actions are revealed when mousing over a row in the category table. The available are actions are:
- Edit :: Clicking this link will allow you to edit the category properties such as its name, slug, parent and description.
- Delete :: Clicking this link will immediately delete the category.
- View :: Clicking this link will take you directly to this site’s frontend, filtering the directory by the category that was clicked.
