Sure, you can use a CSV to import users. This one seems to be rated better though:

I haven’t used either plugin so I can not really recommend one over then other…

Not entirely correct. Yes, they would be able to change their entry, but they would have to log in. There has to be some type of validation that the person making changes is permitted to, that is what logging in would provide.

If you are speaking about an existing WordPress user. The fact the the user exist means they have registered (or are register).

If you are speaking about an existing Connections entry, if they have a matching entry, Link will link the two. There is no need to bulk mark entries as registered because it does not matter… if the user exists and they can login meaning they are already registered.

Essentially, yes. The difference between an an admin and a user is what permission they have. Obviously as an admin you have all permissions. A user is extremely limited permissions as such are not permitted to anything other than change their user password and name. If you have Link installed, they would also have permission to edit their entry but only if you add that permission.

Does that make sense?

It starting to sound like you might be confused about what a WordPress user is and what the process for a person to register as a user is.

There are a lot of great resources that explain the WordPress Roles and Capabilities as related to Users. There are also great resource that explain the registration process in WordPress and how to configure the default roles and capabilities assigned to users. They explain far better than I can articulate.

Once you better understand these, then I’m certain you’ll understand why a user needs to register before they are permitted to make edits to anything within WordPress, not just data within Connections.

You need to copy the following folde to the new server:

../wp-content/uploads/connections-images/

Typically when you move an entire site you would copy the entire uploads folder. Not doing so would breay links to any other attachments/link/images to items within the uploads folder.

Do you have the Widget Pack installed? The core Connections plugin does not have any widgets, so there should not be any reason for there to be an effect because there is nothing loading by the core Connections plugin on that page.

Can you give me an admin account to the fresh install so I can see the issue?

That would not work out too because the search pagination and other Connections related queries would affect all instances of the shortcode on the page.

Something that might work well enough for you could be this…

The Widget Pack has a search widget. You could add this widget to the theme’s sidebar. This widget would do a search on the page set as the directory home page.

So, you could create a “Results”. The page name does not matter, it can be anything that is relevant to your useage.

You would set the page as the directory home page.

This page would have only a single instance of the shortcode with no options.

You would then change the shortcodes on the category grouping page like so:

[connections category='xx' force_home=true]
Category yy
[connections category='yy' force_home=true]
Category zz
[connections category='zz' force_home=true]

Now all links on the category grouping page would resolve to the “Results” page too.

I know other use this type of setup although I can not think of any I could show you off hand.

To allow someone to edit “their” entry you will need at least the Link extension which requires a user account which in turn would require the user going thru the registration process.

There just is not a way to allow someone to edit an entry without a user account.

I understand you want to allow each homeowner to edit their entry. So, there is no “registration” process, other than buying a home in this community! How would you propose someone being able to edit an entry without first validating that the person has permission to edit the entry first?

The only answer I can come up with to this question is… the admin (you?) creates the user account in advance and give it to the new homeowner. With this work flow, you would still need the Link extension. You’ve pretty much already said that you do not wish to create the user accounts.

All this said, if you do not want to create the users and you do not want the homeowners to register, I see no way of allowing the homeowners edit their entries. Sorry.

Ok, I’ve identified the bug and fixed it. This bug only presents itself when using the “Default” permalink structure. If you use a pretty permalink structure, like “Post name” the issue will resolve itself. After you change the permalink structure, you will have to go back to the Widget admin page and click the Save button to clear the widget cache so the links are updated.

The fix for the “Default” permalink structure will be in the next bug fix release for Connections next week.

The renewal fee would be the current price at the time of renewal minus 20%. As an example if you were renewing it today, the fee would be $15.99 instead of $19.99.
