I took another look… it seems that W3TC was not the cause. Looking at the page source, all the javascript file on your site is being loaded via an async request. Open the page in view source and search for this: asyncScripts =

Doing this is fine as long the rest of the scripts/code that depends on the scripts are “aware” of this. But that is not the case, generally isn’t on a WP site. Because these scripts are not immediately available this is cause other script loaded in the page to throw a fatal error. This means on javascript after that fatal error will not be run by the browser. Unfortunately this mean the scripts for Connections.

You can view the errors by loading the page in Chrome, hitting the F12 key and then clicking the Console tab. The two important errors are:

• Uncaught ReferenceError: jQuery is not defined
• Uncaught TypeError: $ is not a function

This is happening be cause jQuery is not loaded before being referenced. This is happening because something is moving all the javascript files to an async request.

Can you tell me what table needs to have write permissions enabled?

Well, this is hard to explain because it really depends on how the webhost control panel works. But check to make sure the user you setup in the wp-config.php file for the database has write and alter permissions to the database.

Well, no, not “out of the box” but could be done with a custom template. Is that site you want to duplicate one of your clients? I ask because the pages seems to “spam” itself. On page load, once a second it does a query as if the “show more” button was clicked. The query should only trigger on the button click.

This is happening because the shortcode was copy/pasted from this site into the WordPress Visual editor. When this is done, the underlying HTML of the copied text is also pasted. This is not an issue with Connections but how the WordPress Visual editor works. If you copy/paste from a webpage, I highly suggest that it is pasted into the the Text tab of the Visual editor instead. That way the underlying HTML will not be pasted too. This is a good practice to always follow no matter what is being copy/pasted into the WordPress editor.

To fix this, edit the page where the shortcode was pasted and switch the editor to the Text tab. Remove the link from around the shortcode and save. This will fix both issues.

Ok, made a tweak to the login that does the ordering on your site (after testing it on mine, of course). It seems to work fine. I did add a secondary sort option to the shortcode on the events page so entries with events on the same day display alphabetically.

Take a look I think it is good to go. The change will be in the update so you will be able to update safely.

You have errors in the shortcode…

To fix, first switch the editor to the Text tab.Make sure you do not have any HTML tags in or around the shortcode. If HTML is mixed in, that breaks the WP shortcode parser. If the shortcode or any of its options are copy/pasted into the Visual editor, the underlying HTML from the page it was copied from will also be pasted. This is not a Connections issue but rather how the Visual editor works.

All the shortcode options should be in lowercase. Example, enable_Note should be enable_note.

Although not strictly necessary, the shortcode option values should be either single or double quoted. Example, enable_note='true'.

Make sure straight quotes are being used. The WP shortcode parser does not support fancy quotes. This is very difficult to see on screen and come from copy/pasting from a webpage into the Visual editor. If you type your quotes manually into the Text editor the proper quotes will be used.

The exclude_category shortcode option, when multiple ID/s are being excluded, you must use quotes. Example: exclude_category='4,1,3,16'
