It seems you may have disabled the core CSS for Connections. You should re-enable this option otherwise you have to provide you own CSS to do this.

Just use Go back to directory. in the Original string field and then enter what you want it to be in the Replacement string field.

The only way to add this will be to edit PHP of the template.

Open the card.php file found in this folder:

../wp-content/plugins/connections-circled/

Add this to line 31:

<?php if ( $atts['show_org'] ) $entry->getOrgUnitBlock(); ?>

Looks like we cross posted…

I downloaded the free version of the Virtue theme by Kadence Themes.

In several instances they are using the $wp_query var incorrectly.

In the page-blog.php, page-portfolio.php, authorbox.php, recentblog-carousel.php, recentportfolio-carousel.php, similarblog-carousel.php, blog-home.php, latest-slider.php and portfolio-carousel.php file they are saving it to a temp var, nulling it out and “restoring” it. This is definitely the wrong way of doing it and will break any plugins that happen to need the $wp_query variable.

The error is very likely originating with the theme incorrectly utilizing the WordPress global $wp_query variable. So it is not really a Connections bug. If you are using a Cherry Framework based theme, I do have a FAQ on how to fix it.

Now, that said…

To get you site running again. First login to your site with FTP.

After you are logged in, navigate to this folder:

../wp-content/plugins/

In that folder you will find the connections folder.

Delete that folder and your site will be restored but the source of the problem will still exist. Unfortunately you will not be able to run Connections until it is fixed.

Thanks for the detailed feedback! It would make sense that these were inserted by an admin editing the entries in the admin because only an admin has the permissions required to insert unfiltered HTML into the bio and notes fields. All other roles on the site, the HTML would be filtered, removing script tags, iframes and such.

It’s actually possible this has been in the db for quite some time. Older version of Connections would filter the bio and notes on display rather than save so script tags would have been removed regardless of user role. In version 8.2.10 I changed this to match the way WordPress handles it. The filtering only happens on saving to the db. This is more performant and allows the admin, which has the unfiltered HTML capability, to add inline scripts/iframes and such.

You can enable the display of the built in Custom Fields metabox by enabling it under the Content Block settings. Here’s the link to the doc page:

The “View All” page has never displayed the category drop down, no matter the template being used. There is no way to enable it on this page. As you can see, it is on the main directory page which uses the Tile Plus template:

The original instructions are what you need to follow. The updated bit is to let you know how to delete the file and to purge the WP Engine cache.
