RE: On the second option you have the ability to add categories. Is this something that if a user is managing there directory listing they can actually select the categories that they want to add/remove to/from their listing.

Ok, I was thinking something different when you asked about editing categories. I was thinking actually editing the category. The Form addon does allow which categories are attached to a submission. It does not add new ones. It is a list of the categories already added.

If you want user to be able to add and maintain their own entry, install and configure the Link addon. If you want to allow the user to do this from the frontend instead of their admin profile page, install and configure the Form addon. Just do not enable the “Submit New Entry” option as mentioned in the Form docs.

    Hope this helps!

Can you please share a link to the directory page so I can take a look?

RE: Is there any way to minimize the space between the fields so I can see the entire email in my tile even if one of the fields above it has a string that spills into a new line?

Ok, I have not seen that in probably more than a year or so. The theme was “injecting” extra line breaks into the page contents, including the Connections templates. The sort of defect use to be very common in Themeforest themes.

Because it use to be such an issue I added a workaround in Connections. On the Connections : Settings admin page, click the Advanced tab and scroll all the way to the bottom. There you will find a Template Compatibility option. I enabled this. Basically it parses the Connections code and removes the extra line breaks. This works because I do not use line breaks in template output. So they are easy to target and remove.

RE: is there an extension that would allow me to make sub-categories? As in, if I wanted people to be able to search by…profession or city or committee, but I didn’t want to list all the professions AND cities AND committees in one drop-down menu of categories, is there anything that would allow me to separate them?

I offer an add on to Pro Pack users, on request, which offers a multiple category search.

You can see it on this live third part site:

    https://sscit.org/directory/

I offer it as is in functionality and styling. It can be difficult to configure due to it having a complex shortcode to configure the multiple category search options. But it is not too bad if you are familiar with working with shortcodes.

RE: I thought I saw an extension that allows users to edit their own contact card without having a wordpress role of editor (just being an activated user) – but then I went back and scoured the extensions and could not find it again. Did I read that about another plugin and get my wires crossed?

That would be the Link addon.

    And, optionally, the Form addon.

    Hope this helps!

Yep, email can be a rabbit hole ;)

Hopefully, after all the work, it resolves the issue you were experiencing. If by remote chance it does not, at least the SendGrid logs will help figure out why.

In regards to DNS… I can send you down another hole. Instead of using GD for DNS, you can use Cloudflare instead. I find that when I need to make changes, the propagate within minutes. And their tools are far better than what the typical web host provides.

RE: which theme is the best to be used in a columnar format?

These templates have a columnar layout by design:

RE: For us it is important to have categories and to find the member for example within a radius of 100 kilometers of a location or postcode.

All of these template have the ability to filter by category. Both Circle and Gridder have that feature off by default, but it can be enabled.

    Hope this helps!

I think I understand, you want to display the email and use the contact form. Is that correct? If it is, sorry, but there is not an option to do this.

Perhaps using a plugin like Registration and Invitation Codes will do the trick.

    Hope this helps!

RE: I know that this is possible because I seen it in the demo. How do you make the categories editable on the front end?

Which demo? The categories can not be edited from the frontend. You can filter by a category from the frontend. Is that what you mean?
