Perhaps put the instructions in the Form configuration area instead of on the page?

Navigate to the Connections : Settings page and click the Form tab.

Under the Configuration section you will find two content areas, “Content Before” and “Content After”. This will give you the ability to show custom text and such before and after the display of the form.

You could place your instructions in these areas.

    Does that help you out?

    @ kenyon

I recommend creating a category named “Restaurants type” and then add the types as children categories. American, Mexican, etc.

Since you have cMap, this will allow your site visitors to filter by restaurant by type using the category filter.

Hope this helps, let me know.

RE: Right now entries are ordered by date of entry.

Actually they are ordered alphabetically by default unless changed by the order_by shortcode option.

RE: is there a way to either change their date of entry, or specify a grouping of entries i want to show first? I want those entries who are Certified to show first.

Example 2 on the order_by shortcode option doc page shows how you can order specific entries in a specific order.

But, I do not think that will yield the results you are looking for. I think you will need the Custom Entry Order extension

With this you could set the order of the entries you wish to have list top and in a specific order.

To set an entry to display at the top, you would set the entry order to 1. To have an entry show second, after the entry assigned to 1 you would assign that entry the order of 2. If there is no entry assigned as 1, then the entry assigned 2 would actually be first.

That said, I would recommend setting order by 10’s or even 100’s. This will allow you the opportunity to insert entries in between others. For example having entries assigned orders of 100, 200 and 300 would display those entries in that order at the top. So you could insert an entry in between 100 and 200 by assigning the order as 150.

Entries assigned the same order would be grouped together, sorted alphabetically.

When filtering by category, the entry order would still be applied.

Hoe this helps, let me know.

Click the green Clone or download button and choose the Download ZIP option. Save the download to your desktop.

Navigate to the Add New Plugin WP admin page and click the Upload Plugin button.

Choose the ZIP file that you downloaded to your desktop and then click the Upload Now button.

    Activate the plugin.

Finally navigate to the Connections : Settings admin page. You will find the settings under the Advanced tab at the top. Control click on each parent category that you wish to split into their own metabox.

Hope this helps, let me know.

    ps.

    @ Rebecca

RE: I want my members to be able to login to add or edit their own entry without creating a WordPress account. Would that be possible?

I think the answer here depends on what is trying to be accomplished…

If you want members to be able to login and be able to add and edit their own entry in the directory. That user must be logged in as a WP User. To make edits the user has to be authenticated somehow and the WP user authenticate is a proven secure method. Adding a separate way to login would be against best security practices. The WP User at a Subscriber role does not have much more privileges that a not logged in user. They can maintain the email and password and that is about it. You would configure Link but not enable the “Submit Entry” link.

Now, if you want any random user to be able to submit, moderated, submissions to the directory. Yes, this can be done. You only need to use Form and configure it to display the “Submit Entry” link above the directory.

Ok, now, if you want both of the above, you would configure both Form and Link. This would allow site visitors to submit, moderated, entries. Allow your logged in WP Users to add and maintain their own entry. The important bit here is they would only be able to edit their entry, not any additional entries they may add (I think, it’s been quite a while since I tested a config like this). Your users may find that a little confusing.

I think and hope I have answered your questions. Let me know.

    Hope this helps!

See this tutorial on how to change text and label in Connections.

    Here are the settings:

    Original text: Custom Fields
    Text domain: connections
    Text context: leave blank
    New text: your chosen text

    Hope this helps!

    @ Bob

The source of the issue is the ‘Autolink URI” plugin. It is converting the src image link to a “clickable” link which break the image source. It seems to ignore the images which are wrapped in links such as the logos are in your directory.

Looks like the author retired plugin back in 2014.

They suggest their External Links plugin. But that has not been updated in awhile and a quick glance at the support forums seems to be unsupported and causing little issues for others.

Best solution seems to be to deactivate the plugin.

    Hope this helps!
