re: import does not bring over parent-to-child relationship for categories?

Sorry, no, not presently. An update is in progress so it uses the new category import logic which does support importing hierarchies.

Connections uses the same WordPress database as WordPress itself pretty much just like any other plugin, nothing special other than it uses custom tables within the database which is really common. Those tables are all accessed using WordPress. So, guess what I am trying to say is if you change the db password in the wp-config, WordPress will use it and since Connections uses WordPress, Connections will use it too.

If you could give me more details on what you mean by dead, that would be helpful. A couple times a year I do get similar requests for help and it ends up that Connections was not either installed or activated. Can you confirm that it is please. Thanks!

Ok, good to know you do have the latest version installed… but what about providing more specific details such as what you have done to upload. Where is it failing or not failing. What error messages if any? And so on… The CSV file so I can review it.

File looks fine seems to have imported without issue on my test site.

Steps look good. Can you attach the CSV file again? First rename the file. Change the. csv to .txt so it will not be rejected.

Also, since you are importing an export to a new site, make sure to read Why is nothing being imported? FAQ. My guess at this point is that the Entry ID is being mapped and since those entries do not exist on the new site, they can not be updated. This seems to trip up people once in while. I’ll have to update to eith not to auto map or add an option for one to choose to update or import as new instead of trying to do this automagically for users.

Oh, just ocurred to me, perhaps you are receiving the “ERROR: Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.” error message generated by WordPress?

If you are, this is being caused by the latest security update to WordPress 4.7.1. If you’d like to know the details, there is an existing thread starting here on this issue.

The short version of the thread, update CSV Import to the latest version. It contains a change which works around this WordPress error in a secure way.

    Hope this helps!

I am sure I can help but could you please provide more specific details? “tried multiways to get the upload to go” does not give me much to work with. Providing the specifics of the multiways you have tried will help. If can you attach the file you are trying to upload, that will help too. Rename the file extension from .csv to .txt before you attach it or it will be rejected.

I highly suggest reading the CSV file requirements. And the Tips section in the documentation. And lastly, the Why is nothing being imported? FAQ.

re: is there a similar way to redirect the “Go Back to Directory” link back to the original page?

Yes, add the home_id shortcode option to the new page, but set it to the existing page ID.

Since I can not see the site, you will need to provide far more specific details than not working. Thats does not give me any information that I can help with other than the solution that I already provided which you have not said if you tried or not.

Example details, what are the exact permalinks of the character index / pagination? What error messages do you get, if any. Where do the links take you, if anywhere. Attached screenshots if that helps. Any detail you can supply, no matter how small will help since I can not see the site.

Additionally, you can reply back with the system info. Navigate to the Connections : Tools admin page and click the System Info tool. Copy the information and post it here as a private reply.

Well, it is not broken… at one point I did have the page content “cleared” for the lack of a better term but this broke pages which use shortcodes for page structure, like Visual Page Builder plugins. The only thing I can do is try to render only the first [connections] shortcode on the page which is why most of the view profile links end up with no results.

You can use the setup you have, but you’ll need a second page. Create a second page, name it “Person”. The name is no really that important but it should be relevant for SEO friendly permalinks. Take note of the page ID WP give it. You find this in the browser’s address bar after you publish the page.

On this new page add the [connections] shortcode, nothing else with no options.

Now, on your existing page add the home_id shortcode option to all the existing shortcodes. Set the value o the page ID of the new page you just created.

After you have done this and saved the page, all the profile links will not resolve to the new page with nothing but the [connections] shortcode on it so the only thing you will see is the entry.

    Hope that helps!
