ParticipantOh okay – done. :-)
Thanks again!

ParticipantOf course! I was under the misunderstanding that the lastname-firstname format of the images was something Connections plugin was putting in based on the entry when the image was uploaded, now I realise it just picks up the filename so I could use a random string on the filenames before uploading to help obfuscate it. So while we can’t completely restrict it we can make it extremely difficult to guess.
Steven, as always thank you kindly for your prompt responses and support on this plugin, much appreciated!

ParticipantHi Steven,
Thank you so much for your prompt reply and assistance as always. Sorry I didn’t have time to look into this until now as some other issues came up.
I’ve ran through the instructions, I believe have been done correctly but waiting for the request for the removal of the cached entries in google to be 100% sure they don’t reappear on google from further indexing.
Some questions, more for my own understanding…
- The robots.txt is just a standard to request search engines etc not to index certain directories, so google etc would comply but this doesn’t change anything in the way of actually accessing the file.
- The .htaccess entries basically prevent any files from being listed in the connections-images folder (and sub-folders I’m assuming?). So this is something enforced by the web server / host right?
- From my understanding, if someone already knew the full URL of the image file, that is not blocked right? Unfortunately if someone was determined enough and simply knew a persons firstname/lastname and the directory structure of the plugin they would be able to access the image file (to my understanding). Is there any further way around this to restrict these images to be provided to logged in members only or this is a bit difficult?
Thank you kindly.

ParticipantJust FYI as well in case someone else hits something similar, the defaults on file upload were restored back to 24M and seems to be working fine, so looks like just the memory setting. Thanks again.

ParticipantYes! Thanks Steven, increasing it to 128M seems to have resolved the issue, I’ll need to test further but I think it should be good, the Dashboard is showing up correctly now as well.
Getting some users on board to test further now before manually migrating over (fun) the 150-200 odd directory entries. Will be a painful ramp up but will be a lot easier than the old way.
Will eagerly await Link support with Forms but for now I’ve worked around it. I manually edited the class.entry.php to hide some of the fields such as Logo etc and default visibility to Private. Not ideal modification, but just a temporary work-around once we can add/edit with Forms and it supports Link I can ditch that.
Happy to be taking this live soon! Thanks for your support, you can resolve this thread topic.

ParticipantIt’s blank other than an empty news header (assuming I have the right screen). Not sure if this is normal, if you’re asking for this then I’m guessing not! Please find attached screenshot.

ParticipantSorry forgot to mention above, I was able to increase the parameters in my PHP.ini to 200M but I am still facing the same issue, attaching for reference.

ParticipantHi Steven,
I’ve managed to work through all the issues I’ve faced and this is pretty much the last blocker now, so appreciate any help. I’m willing to provide whatever is needed to help you look into this, if you need temp admin or anything like this just let me know how I can safely send to you or any other information or tests you want me to perform just let me know.
Appreciate your feedback, looking forward to going live with this!

ParticipantExcellent, and done (following on Twitter) but will check the dashboard news regularly as well.
Thanks Steven!

ParticipantThanks very much for your replies. I updated as recommended and it did fix issue number 5, thanks for that.
Thanks for the info on 2/3/4, a bit of a bummer but I understand Link is new so will take some time for other things to be all aligned. Having a Form for both add/edit where we can “hide” the fields not used will go down a treat, as it will make it simpler when I’m dealing with not very techy users. So will be eagerly awaiting that feature.
With the paid add-ins, what’s the easiest way to be notified of new versions released with fixes etc so we can keep on top of those? Since I see we can’t just do the update like we do with free plugins.
Thanks again for your responses.
