RE: you do not you do not have permission to access this page – … while I’m an administrator. If I go to manage an entry and then return to categories, it is unlocked

This can happen if you have the Connections : Categories admin page opened in the browser longer than a 24h period and then click an Edit Category link. If this is what is occuring, simply refreshing the page before clicking the Edit link will address these issue because WP will apply a new security token (called nonce) to the Edit link.

RE: The combo with the year 2019 is partly hidden by the arrow of the combo.

It looks like the theme or perhaps a plugin is interfering with the calendar styles. Applying to much padding. If you can share a link for me to view the issue, I should be able to give you some custom CSS to fix it on your site.

    RE: sorting is as follows: 1, 10, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

This is definitely a bug. I have found the issue and corrected it for the next update. I’ll try to get it released this week.

Topic: custom fields by drag & drop

    in forum Slim Plus

    Good morning Steve,

is there already a possibility to rearrange the custom fields by drag & drop, in backend?

Or a possibility of alphabetical sorting in Frontend?

I have already tried the shortcut order_by but probably not the correct ID.

    order_by="cn_entry_meta|SORT_DESC"

    Do you have a solution?

    Friendly greetings, Mo

    @ Erika

The order_by is not sorting based on your custom field. It is sorting based on the city field in the address fieldset. I suspect the entry disappears because the entry does not have an address with a matching city added in its address.

RE: is there anyway to use some of the addons for testing to make sure they will do what I am trying to do – BEFORE buying them?

    Sorry, no, there is not.

My suggestion, which I believe will answer many of your questions, since the core Connections plugin is free and quite capable on its own, install it and give it a try. Add a dozen entry entries to get a feel for it.

I’ll try to answer the rest of your questions.

RE: Since I will want the members to be able to update their own profile, I know that Link Extension is one of them (from a previous question on the forum).

Yes, you will need at least the Link extension for this and optionally the Form extension.

RE: I am unsure of which addon would be best suited to help format the membership listing – we have well over 100 club members, so something with a VERY basic information (perhaps only name a profile pic) with a link for “detailed information” to expand information for that person.

Any one of the premium templates will do. I suggest the cMap template since it support point and click customization vs. the other need their options set via shortcode option. The later is not that hard, but some found it confusing. If you’ve used WP shortcode before then it should be no issue. So Perhaps the Circled template would be a good choice. Really, it simply comes down to which one you like visually.

RE: Our club already uses “ZeeMaps” for people to voluntarily put a pin in a google map. Is there a addon that will use this (or something similar)?

    Sorry, no.

RE: If something requires customization (something I am seeing alot in other threads), is there someone that can help us with that?

    I do provide customization services.

RE: I assume there is a way to customize what kind of fields a directory entry will have, right? For example, Last Name (for sorting), Display Name (eg. Husband & Wife Lastname), address, his cell #, her cell #, his email, her email, etc etc etc…

Here would be an example where using Connections would have helped. You have lots of field available. If you don’t use them, they do not display. Doesn’t makes sense to show something that is empty, right ;)

If you’ve installed Connections, take a look at the Fieldset Configuration options.

Connections also supports custom fields, these require custom coding. You can see what is involved in this tutorial on how to add a custom text field.

RE: I just saw you have bundles. Doing the single site extension pack might be the best way to make sure I just have them all

Yes the Extension Pack and a template would be the way to go. But like I said, you should invest some time into using Connections first. That way you can make sure it fits before making a purchase.

Hope I have answered your questions thoroughly.

I guess I should have included these questions too:

RE: Seems like all my troubles are unique…

With many thousand in sales and far many more in total installations over nearly a decade, yes, most issues tend to be more unique if they are not straight up conflicts. When more than a handful have experience a similar issue I code in workarounds. Here’s one example to which you can relate:

Over the course of the past several years a few dozen or so users Form would not send when the submit button was clicked. And its Add buttons would just cause the form to jump to the top of the page. For all those past users who experienced this, I simply provided a code snippet that forced the javascript for Form to be loaded vs. doing it the right way. For some reason the right way, for them, was not working. A few days before you posted about this issue another had the same issue. The solution for that user was to check if a specific core WP script was registered and if it was not, register it. Something in that users setup was unregistering a core WP script, something that should not be done because of this exact reason. Other plugins may depend on it. If you recall that solution had not worked for you. When debugging your issue I notice the text editor for the bio/notes field was working which meant other core WP scripts were being loaded into the page footer like they should be, but the javascript for Form was not. So I researched how WP was ensuring that they were and mimicked that process in Form and applied that as a hot patch to your site. One should not have to jump thru those hoops as WP provides a specific method for plugin devs to use to output plugin’s javascript. Now that I have these two workarounds in code, I expect this issue to be even more rare.

I am supporting another user this very moment where the Customizer is not loaded for them, but when I log in, it works for me using the exact same login as he is. Would you not also consider that unique?

Any way, back on to sorting out why the Customizer is not loading for you…

    @ Linda

That shortcode is to output specific entries in a specific order utilizing the entry ID, not any of the messenger ID/s. It does not really do any sorting. Perhaps the quick and easy solution is the Custom Entry Order extension. You could assign each of the six streets a number and use that number to set the Entry Order field. Let’s say 1 thru 6. As an example Street X the first in the list would be 1 and Street Y would be 2 and so on. Adding those values to the Entry Order field would cause all entries with the order of 1 to be listed first followed by all entries with the order of 2 and so on.

Hope this make sense and helps. Let me know.

    Thanks for your support!

I highly recommend the cMap template as it is the most popular because it is the most versital and I belive the easiest to use because it can be tweaked using teh Template Customizer vs. shortcode options. The template Customizer make it point and click with previews. With this can can get a visual appearance which matches the default template but the layout will still be a little different. The only area where not template will help is the sorting by membership date. If you are referring to the “Membership” sate type when adding an entry, sorry, but there is not a way at this time to sort by that date. Only the birthday or anniversary dates.

I hope this thoroughly answers your question!

    Topic: Choosing a Premium Template

Hi there! I’ve purchased the CSV Importer, and gotten all my data in. I have it viewable at http://leadershipunlimited.org/2016/alumni/. I really like the look and customization on the default view, but need a few more features. Can you help me pick the template to use? I’m ready to purchase one, but I don’t know which one fits the bill. I need pagination, searching, and sorting by membership date if possible. I’d like to keep the default look as well, just need the extra features. Is there a template that lines up with these requirements?

re: When we update Connections in the future, will we need to re-edit that widget each time?

No, only when the Widget Pack is updated.

re: We’ve made so many tweaks here and there, I have to keep track so we don’t suddenly break the functionality with a simple update.

A quick scan over topics/replies it appears the only changes were shortcode options (sorting by the meta key/value) and a minor CSS tweak added to a custom CSS plugin for the Gridder template. So far seems like updates should be pretty safe to do unless I missed something a bit more critical than that.
