Ok think I have a work around, if I use numbers instead eg 1 represents United Kingdom, it works. Most odd.

Many thanks, got rid off the hover title. Is there any way to rename them so that the hover says something else? (or are the social media type names part of WP itself rather than the connections plugin?)
