RE: That statement comes straight from the PHP doc page explaining why a FALSE would be returned.

Upon passing along your comments, I received the following from the host:
We recently discovered a bug that may have created this issue. A fix has been applied to the server and hopefully the issue has been resolved.
If you run into further issues regarding this, let us know and our Engineers can take a closer look.

RE: I’ll very likely push out an update, very minor, this week. If you wish, all you need to do is copy the class.utility.php file from your sandbox to the live sites.

    Easy enough, I’ll do that.

    RE: the other…

ahhh, yeah, some of that data in the sandbox is 2011 (!). So that makes sense. I’ll update the files on a Live site, see what happens and let you know.

    Thanks!

First, thanks for taking a look. Excellent support as always.

Interesting, as I had not noticed this issue previously. We use a managed WordPress host, so the ‘broken or old’ part is a little disconcerting. I will be passing this along to them for comment.

Could it have anything to do with any changes in WP 4.4? as again, I don’t recall this issue previously.

    Two bigger questions.

    1) I am experiencing this issue on other sites on the same server. Do I need to make changes there also? or can I just wait for your next release? (or is that a ways out? if so, I’ll need to address).

    2) It still seems as though existing records that HAVE data (address, phone, etc…) when I open these records to make any edits, ALL of that address data is gone. So if I save (without reentering the address data from scratch), it saves the record with blank data.

This ONLY happens with records that have NOT been (recently) edited. Meaning if I edit a record that had already been messed up, the new edit does retain the data and works properly. (That sounds weird, does that make any sense?)

    Thoughts?

    Thanks.

By the way, I figure you got hit pretty good with the snow. Hope all is well.

So this gets even more curiouser and curiouser. Now, when I go into a record, ALL of the address data is GONE.

Of course then when I save any edit, the address info is gone on the site.

EXCEPT, if you go back in a record that had already been updated (and had all those extra fields). That data is still there, and if you open and save that record, it duplicates all of those fields. Good times.

Fortunately, all of this is happening on the Dev site, but now I’m terrified to try anything on the Live site. :) Adding a login and info in a private post next.

    Thanks.

Always happy to provide the ‘never-seen-before.’ :)

So another strange related issue is that in the Manage record area, when you click REMOVE on any item, for example the 5th section of the social links, it removes the TOP section, NOT the one that was clicked. Weird.

I’ll set up an admin account on the dev site for you.

    Thanks for the timely reply.

OK, I’ll take your word for it. :)

Yes, adding that did resolve that issue. The only thing that then came up was the ‘return to directory’ link showed up at every one of the line items in the widget. Didn’t want that, but a simple CSS/display hid it in the widget while allowing it in the main Connections listings page.

    So it’s all good.

    Thanks. Have a great day!

Funny, I didn’t have the Widgets 2.1 on my Live site, and thought, hey this will do it. But it’s never that easy. :)

I created a special category (83) that when included would place a listing in the widget. And when combined with the category id (52, or 4, or 5, etc…) would display (only) those specific listings.

I then created a text widget in the sidebar that has shortcode that looks like this (partial):

    Accounting and CPA [connections template="names" category_in='52,83' order_by='department|SORT_DESC, organization|ASC'] Attorney and Legal [connections template="names" category_in='4,83' order_by='department|SORT_DESC, organization|ASC'] Automotive [connections template="names" category_in='5,83' order_by='department|SORT_DESC, organization|ASC']

The finished product looks like the attached image.

Not at all elegant, I know. :) But works for now.

The new widget doesn’t seem to allow me to have multiple separated categories like the screencap shows. (without creating tons of individual widget instances).

Does that make any sense? And if you have a better way to accomplish this I’m all ears.

    Thanks!

I do have a custom button/link back on the category – /go-local/category/banks-credit-unions/ page, but on the individual company – /go-local/company/riverview-community-bank/ page. I see no way to add something to the top of the ‘page’ when really isn’t it more like an endpoint.

I am trying to add the new link to a widget area just above those individual company listings, but having trouble keeping that link off of the category page too.

The ability to define the link destination in that area would be nice. :)

Not that big a deal, I can always just add it in the widget area and have it show on both places. If I could figure out a way to ‘display: none’ it on just the category related page, I would?

    Thanks.

No worries. I get the challenges. I will remove that option and create a manual link back to the (relative) main Directory page. I know I have done this before, I just need to remember how I did it.

I doubt I modified the template itself, I probably dropped something with a link in a pre-content widget area specifically on those pages. I’ll try both and see what works unless you have a better (read: easy) :) idea to try.

    Thanks!

“that will not work” is sufficient for me some days. :)

I went back into the Names template in the main Connections plugin and changed style.css back to its original settings, eg. multiple columns, etc… (I had manually overwritten to get this done).

    I then changed custom-names.css to names.css in the /childtheme/connection-templates/names/

I then checked the display on the site, and viola, it is as I wanted, the changes in the css in the childtheme are in place, overwriting the css for the Names template from the base plugin.

    All good, it seems.

Someday, there might be a better way to display the selected records as I am attempting with the Names usage there. But for now, if it works, I’m on to the next thing on my site that doesn’t. :)

    Thanks!
