Well, after the long wait the next version of Connections has been released updon the world. Many thanks to those of you who downloaded the beta and release candidate and reported bugs! The response so far has been overwhelmingly positive, only a few minor issues which will be addressed. Actually these issues are so minor [a couple warning messages], I probably will not push an official update. I’ll just update the current release.
If you’re stoping by to see what’s new, please see these posts. There is just too much to put in a single blog post.
Connections: Edit Entry, Family option. The select entry and select relation is not working with WordPress 3.3.
@Darren
Wow! How did I miss that. The issue is actually minor, but major. I forgot to load the styles on those pages. I’ll release a bug fix release in the next couple days.
Hi Steve
How do we go about updating? I’m not seeing an option in the plugins dashboard, nor am I seeing anything in the member’s area, from which I originally downloaded my purchase.
Thanks
Dawson
Scratch that.
I must have been momentarily blind.
I see it in the plugins dashboard.
Duuhhhh…
Cheers!
Steve: Looks like you’ve put a lot of work into this release. I’m surprised there’s still no front-end user submission form — that’s the one feature I’ve been waiting for for a couple years now. What’s the outlook for that?
@King
This release was long in the making. Much longer than I thought it would take and this release was needed before the front end form addon could be started. That said, I plan to have something out by the end of the first quarter of 2012. It may not be as flexible or as customizable as I would like but something will done. If you have specific feature requests for the front end form, I’m all ears.
Hi Steve, We’ve been playing around with Connections with the possibility of using it in our community. For some reason, the new release on the 19th caused the loss of the address info on the displayed listings. Every entry says that it was updated 2 days ago and all the other info is displayed. The Connections database has all the information, including the address. If we go to Edit the entry and just hit Update, the address info is restored to the display, but with an apostrophe in the next lower line. Anybody else reporting this issue?
@Lawson
Can you please try deactivating Connections, delete it and then re-install it from the admin?
Can do that. Will we lose the entries that we have made? Thanks for your reply and a very nice program.
@Lawson
No, the entries you have entered will not be deleted. So it’s safe. Think of it as a manual plugin upgrade.
How do I back up the database tables before starting the database upgrade?
@Shannon
Here’s a link on how to do a backup: http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database
Here’s a link on how to restore a db backup: http://codex.wordpress.org/Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup
And here’s plugin that does db backups: WP-DBManager
There’s been nearly 1,000 upgrades so far, so the process seems to be safe. Backups are always good though. I recommend using the plugin.
Great, it’s finally there! I’ve got the Tile Plus template, how can I activate the front end search option? Or do I have to wait for an update?
@asbk
You’ll have to wait for the template to be updated which will happen in a couple weeks. Please keep an eye on the new Connections : Dashboard admin page for the release announcement.
I use the cMap template. The map links are not getting the right information at this time. http://www.panachevue.com/partner-directory/
@Jason
Please try activating any random template and the reactivate the cMap template.
