I would need more details on how your client would expect this to work. A feature like this would have to be integrated into Connections. So, their expectations of how the preview would work will also need to be compatible with how others use Connections. The best possible solution I can think of is loading the entry in a lightbox on the add/edit page displayed in the current activated template. Doing this would be a lot of development time.
RE: Save and reload (same as a page or post)
I do not think this would be that difficult to implement, but, it would have to be done in a way that would not affect anyone else.
