With the Gridder template, these features are off by default as noted on the product page and can easily be turned on.

re: Why is the thumbnail so low-res when I selected the smallest image to be displayed at 80×80 which is what those thumbnails are.

re: I don’t want the grid to have the “show profile” bottom portion because none of my photos will link to a profile but rather to an external link. – How can I get rid of that?

This can be turned off, here’s the instructions to turn off the view profile link.

There’s a lot of good info in the docs for Gridder on this page and answers most questions on how to set it up.
