So, basically, I can show custom fields (and yes, I am talking about ordinary text fields, nothing fancy), but I cannot CSV import to these custom fields?

Because I read (sorry to quote you again, but I have been/am searching eagerly for a solution)

CVS Import will have an update release at the same time to support the
ability of plugins that add custom fields to also extend the import
importing into those custom fields from a CSV file.
