Edit the page you inserted the [connections] shortcode on, switch the editor to the Text tab and then remove the <code> and <pre> HTML tags from around the shortcode.

That’ll fix it.

The cost of the issue is that you likely copy/pasted the shortcode from a web page into the post editor while in the Visual post editor tab. When you do this, the HTML from the source page will also be pasted.
