Sorry, but I am not completely following…
Depending on how you added custom fields, you would lose them when updating the plugin… I image the data is still safe in the database though. I guess my first question would be, how did you add the custom fields? Did you edit core plugin files? If you did, the only solution would be to restore the plugin from a backup.
There’s no code within Connections that has the ability to remove or delete a table let alone an entire database so I have no clue what to suggest. My best guess is something else caused the database to become corrupt. This can usually always be fixed by repairing in using phpMyAdmin.
I’m not familiar with the “My Card” plugin, nor could I find it doing a wen search so I’m unsure how this would relate to Connections.
Removing the files for Connections is safe because the data is stored in the database and Connections does not have any code that can remove the tables where the data is stored. The images are saved in the ../wp-content/connection_images/, those too are safe when deleting the plugin files.
