I sounds as if Tile Plus or Excerpt Plus is the template you are looking for.

You would activate either of those templates under the All template type on the Connections : Templates admin page. You would then activate either the Default Entry Card or Bio Entry Card templates under the Individual or Organization template types. Then you would enable the Single Entry option under the Display tab on the Connections : Settings admin page.

To allow users to edit their own entry, I suggest Link.With that, they will be able to add their own entry and maintain it.
