Let’s say I don’t want my user to have all of these fields. I only want them to have Name, Title, Business, City/State, phone and email… how would I disable the other fields on the user-side? Is there an easy way?

I get why you’re offering private support forums but I’m not a member and seriously considering using Connections. I like to have a really good look around any support features before committing to any new tool.

The only forums that are private are those set aside for specific products. The rest of them are open to all to post. The only real difference is that I answer the questions in the product forums first, then the rest.

We’ve installed cMap. Having trouble with logo and images. We’ve added images but they don’t show. How do we get thumbnail images to appear on the card? Logo’s do not scale to fit leaving so they extend over the box or appear too small with the outline of the box and empty space showing around the image. How do we fix this?

Joan, the image is loaded in the bio content tray.
To change the way the logos are processed, you need to change the settings on the Connections : Settings admin page under the Images tab. The logo settings are at the bottom of the page. The default setting is to “Fill”. This sounds exactly what you are seeing. The logos are being scaled to fit within the image dimensions defined on the settings page. Fill will add the additional space as need to maintain those dimensions while also maintaining the logos aspect ratio so logos are not distorted.
One note, changing the image settings does not affect images/logos already upload, only newly uploaded images. So if you have a logo or image already uploaded and you want those settings applied that logo or image, you’ll have to re-upload it.
Is there a setting where I can make it so the category comes up as the title of the page?

Connections doesn’t pull in the WordPress users. Releasing soon is Link, this will allow users to create and maintain their own entry within Connections.
I thought I had posted this earlier in the week but perhaps I didn’t…I have two questions…
1. Can we designate the order of the bios? The client does not want them alphabetically, but rather, the office manager at the top, and the rest in an office “hierarchy.” Is there any way to designate the order manually?
2. The drop down for Select a Category. Can we specify which category shows automatically instead of it saying “select a category?” We want a specific office category to show instead.

Hmmm, these questions sound familiar, so you must have asked and I must have answered … could have been someone else asking too. Any way…
1. Here’s the link to the doc page that explains the custom ordering options that are available.
2. Sorry, but you can’t specify a specific category to show by default. But, there is an option. Select the category you want to show by default, copy the URL and use that URL to create a “Custom Link” and add that to your Menu instead of linking to the page. I hope that makes sense.

Our Dates (Birthdays) were all changed to 1 day earlier, as if there was a leap year bug. I checked, saw they had changed, and modified one to the correct date. Upon update, a second date record was entered that appeared to be a duplicate, except the date was also one day less. The only workaround seems to be to enter the date+1 and a second record will be entered that is one less. The shortcode always returns the erroneous, 2nd record that was entered on pressing update.
The time zone has not changed, and still appears correct.
Hi Steven. This is a great plugin which has worked well for a couple of my projects. I have 2 questions for you:
1. I purchased the cmap template but can’t seem to locate a user name and pw. I don’t recall having to login to make the purchase. Is this a new requirement? Can we fix this?
2. I am using the template for a business directory and we’d rather have the “Bio” title read something like “Description” rather than Bio (we’re just listing business information, not personal “bio” type content). Can you point the direction to where this can be modified?

I just resent your purchase receipts. Your user name is josh901, just use the “Forgot Password” link on you account login page. This is sort of new, since September of last year. The shopping cart got a major upgrade.
You can do this by setting some shortcode options which are enabled when cMap is in use. See here for the complete list. Here’s the link to the option you need to use.

Great. Thanks for the prompt response. I’m able to change the text “Show Bio” to “Description”, though once it’s clicked it still shows “Biography” as the title, and has “Close Bio” in the upper left. Is it possible to change these titles too?

We are using connections on our state listings. However, we are having problems with the uploaded images being changed from gif images to jpg images. We have many advertisers who want a rotating image. Is there a workaround for this issue? Thank you!

Sorry, but GIF/s are not supported by the image processor.
I have loved Connections for two of our websites, one being the GreenBusinessDirectorySnohomishCounty.com and the other SlipcoverNetwork.org.
I did update and none of the short codes are on any of the pages.

I just replied to you previous comment w/ a link to a support forum topic I think you might have submitted. If you’re not the same Karen, the same reply applies for the cache permissions.

It seems the server setup is preventing Connections from setting the permissions automatically so you may need to follow the manual installation instructions.

We installed Connections for Physician directory. We maintenance our Physician Database in our local SQL server and we update our record once a week. What is the best way to syn the data? I don’t think CSV import is working for us, since we update/add/delete the data (not only add a new record) and also there are over 15000 records.

Well, the CSV Import is definitely not an option here. Sorry, but I do not have a solution for this unique scenario.
Is there a limit to number of member listings in any of the templates?

The latest update to connections seems to have broken the ‘tabs’ information. That is, the tabs for each page, which are probably controlled by WP, were working fine until the most recent update to connections. Now I get a lot of html where the tabs should be./

Newer versions of WordPress has made changes to make shortcode more secure perhaps that change is what broken your tabs. Without a link to see the issue is not really possible for me to offer a solution. If you share a link to the page having the issue, I’ll take a look. PLease post it to the support forum.

Hi Steve, I am trying to deactivate the license Site URL so I can update the URL to the live site. When I click it doesn’t respond. It just reloads the page. Can you help please?

Only the original purchaser can deactivate a licence. It appear Jay S. was the original purchaser and that your renewed those existing licenses. I’ve manually deactivate them on the existing site. You should now be able to activate the license.
