At the moment I’ve got the notes/bio working well, and the map is dropping down not, but not displaying – just a grey box.

I did this by using setting W3TC minify to manual and setting these specific pages not to be minified. Would there be something else necessary to get the map showing?

Marvellous. I had put a few plugins recently, but I’m not technical enough to spot where the conflicts might be! I’ll get cracking on W3TC. Thx as ever.
