I have narrowed in on an aspect of the issue that may shed some light on a fix. unlisted the listing that gave me the error messages and those messages were centered around the uploaded file somehow corrupted by the 4.0 upgrade.
When I try to delete the entire listing, I get this error message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined method SplFileInfo::isDot() in ../wp-content/plugins/connections/includes/class.filesystem.php on line 253
