Yes, it is a TimThumb error but it is being caused by the way the server permissions are setup/managed. In 99% of web hosts this isn’t an issue. The remaining seem to have tighter security policies. Not a bad thing, but does make simple things troublesome.
Could I get a temp admin account and FTP account so I can take a closer look?
Also, If you want, I have a beta version of Connections that I’m looking for some testers. I consider safe and ready to use in its current state. I’ve completely overhauled all the image code, removing the need for third party libraries such as TimThumb while adding support for responsive images and 2x HD (retina) images if the device supports it. I would need to the same access as I mentioned as above so I can make backup of the ../wp-content/connection_images/ folder. The new code closely follows the current WP best practices for where to save files. So they are moved, transparently, to a new location and folder structure. The backup will be top make sure no images get deleted that shouldn’t.
