Go find that update button, version 8.2 has just been released!
The primary focus of this release was to completely rework the code that processed the reading and writing of the entry meta data table so that meta data can also be saved for the categories. With this core feature enhanced to support categories, it has paved the way for the Custom Category Order extension. What else can be done with being able to add meta data to categories? The first thing that comes to mind is a featured image for a category. Really, the possibilities are endless! If you have any ideas, let me know in the comments below. I look forward to hearing them!
While I was working on the categories, I decided it would be a great time to improve other areas in the code pertaining to them. One area receiving a complete overhaul is the category admin page. It is now significantly faster, especially with large numbers of categories. Search and pagination were also added for greater ease in managing a large number of categories. A side benefit of this overhaul is the entry admin page also receives a significant speed boost, as well.
That’s about it for the front facing changes, everything else is under the hood improvement. The entire changelog is quite long. If you want to review it, it can be found here.
Enjoy, this is the best version of Connections yet… but not for too long because 8.3 has been under development for a couple weeks and includes even more improvements!
I have members in 2 departments, Group A and Group B. Using Settings/Advanced/ Links and checking Departments, is it possible to link to the other Department (show the members in the other department). I need this resulting code on my member profile Group A
to be this resulting code Group A
.
@ Richard
I’m sorry… I’ve read this a few times and I do not quite understand what you are asking.
Rereading, I don’t understand it either :-) I solved it by using code to hyperlink to each department from my directory page. Thanks for your time and a very usable plugin.
@ Richard
Great to hear you figured out a solution.
hi Steve
Any idea WHEN this export function will be on the horizon??
We have unfortunately outgrown Connections, and desperately need to export all the data to migrate to a new system.
i really, really, don’t want to retype it…….
@ kera
This should be coming with the 8.4/8.5 release this summer. Right these heavy development work being done to support geolocation/regional search… thing map with pins with the ability to filter by category/region/keywords. A very ugly prototype can be found here.
Curious, what do you mean by; “outgrown Connections“? There are others using Connections that literally have hundreds of thousands of entries. So Connections does scale well.
