re: I can see a large cache file that I’m unable to clear or figure out how to clear with your plugin.
Connections does not have a cache file so I am not exactly sure what you are seeing.
RE: PHP Compatibility Checker and that even flagged the plugin as a problem as being too large to check.
Connections is compatible with PHP 5.3 to PHP 7.1, no need to run the compatibility checker on it. In fact Connections will only load if the environment (PHP and WordPress versions) it is installed on is compatible.
RE: I cannot upgrade to 7.0 at this time because of a couple of unknowns, warnings and an error that showed up with the checker. Please advise!
What version of PHP is running? Regardless of the warning notices displayed in the PHP Compatibility Checker I would still recommend updating to PHP 7.1. I suspect you will find that things will run just fine. I do not know about your web host, but upgrading on our host is a matter of choosing a PHP version in the web host control panel. I personally can opt to run 5.3 to 7.1. If your web host provides a similar option, you could chose to run 7.1 and just change the setting back if you find there is an actual issue when running 7.1.
Can you please create a temp admin account using this plugin:

Reply back, as a private reply, with the token login URL. I’d like to see what is on your blog page when Connections is deactivated.
