According to the system info, PHP is reporting that GD is not installed. If your web tech guys said it was, then perhaps it is not configured properly. Since you we able to upload images into Connections at one point, perhaps a server or PHP upgrade has occurred which broke GD for you.
RE: Regarding the Edit image function, that is not set on my platform.
That helps to reaffirm that GD is not installed or functioning correctly. You should see this. Doing a quick PageSpeed Analysis on the site, it does show that there are a couple hires images being served (possible many, I only checked a single page), this could be due to WP was not able to create the properly size images and is instead is serving the original uploaded hires version which is hurting the page load time a little. On high speed connections it is probably not that noticeable, but on a mobile device it would be.
