Connections works fine from PHP versions from 5.2.4 [minimum WP requirement] to 5.4.10.

The only other item to try is disabling all other plugins to see if the error persists. And if it does, load a clean install of WP up on a test site by creating a subdomain and install Connections. If the error does not persist, then the theme is somehow the cause. BTW, could I get a copy of it just to test that myself?
