Added some HTML comments to the shortcode to make sure I was properly closing my tags. Unfortunately WP “helps” by stripping them back out. I left them in until I could figure out a way to force WP to leave them in.

Curious, why comment out the shortcode if you’re showing the directory?

Any way, I think it may have triggered a known bug in the WP core for you because of commenting of the shortcode.
