Connections requires PHP version 5.3. Your webhost is likely running an out of date and possibly insecure version of PHP, version 5.2.
WordPress recommends PHP 7.2. I would recommend 7.1 as 7.2 was only recently released and many plugins have not yet caught up to the changes required to properly support 7.2.
You may have the option to choose which PHP version to run in your webhost control panel. So I would suggest looking there and change the version. But if you do not have that option in your control panel, your webhost support should be able to change the version being run quite easily. There are many reason to update the version being run Such as running WordPress faster with less server resources. This means faster page loading time for you 🙂
Hope this helps! Please let me know.
