It sounds like you never installed the Connections plugin. All the extensions and templates for Connections, must have Connections installed in order to be used. After you install Connections you’ll be able to use its templates.

The template use to throw an error message. It seems to have been removed in the last update. I’ll make sure that is added as well as a new step one installation instruction noting Connections must be installed first to make this more clear.
