No, there are no special settings needed. Maybe the theme is conflicting. The divs should not overlap but the image doesn’t change size … the template should look the same just less content width of the right div. Responsiveness is all just CSS. If you need/want to tweak you could create a custom template CSS file for the template using the CSS file that comes with the template as a base.

Can you share a link to your directory page, I’d like to see the issue.
