Sorry, I do not exactly follow what the issue is, but I’ll do my best…
The first thing I see is there are extra spaces in the shortcode, use this:
[connections category_name='speakers' list_type='individual' template='card-single']
Read this QuickTip on working with shortcodes.
Now, with said, using the template shortcode option may not be the best option because that option overrides the settings set in the admin.
Instead try this…
Go the Connections : Settings admin page and enable the Single Entry Template option under the Display tab.
Now go to the Connections : Templates admin page.
Under the All template type active your desired template when viewing the results list, the list of entries.
Finally under the Individual and Organization template types activate the desired template you want to be used when displaying a single entry.
