That isn’t “hanging” the images are created by WordPress.com. They enter a queue in their system and created in its turn. Most the time that is pretty quick, sometimes it takes a little longer. If it is a valid URL, an image will be created.

I made the tweak to Excerpt Plus and it’s working now as it should. I created a “Test 2: Excerpt” page using the shortcode from above.

I also updated cMap to the latest version, so you should be good to go their too.
