That does indeed seem to be a regression introduced in the 8.16 update of Connections. This will be corrected in the next update.
In regards to the PHP notice… please see this FAQ on PHP notices and warning. It is a best practice not to display these on live public sites. The FAQ covers how to disable them on your site.
