Sorry, but the Slim Plus template at this point has not been upgraded to use the Template Customizer. The shortcode options are the only method for settings its options (which all the Template Customizer does really).

The ability to show the assigned categories has never been a feature in the Slim Plus template. It can be added but only through the use of custom template override files.

This is not too difficult. I’ve given instruction to another user who wanted the same. It can be found in this reply.
