I;ve read this a few times and I believe the answer is yes, you can do what you want. I’m assuming the department directory pages are actually subsites in your multisite network, correct? If this is the case, what you need to do is setup Connections to run in single site mode on you multisite network. Ensure all your entries exist on the primary site. You departments would have to be categories within Connections and the relevant entries assigned to those categories. Then on your subsites when you setup the shortcode to embed the directory, you would limit the display to that specific category. Others have done exactly this so they can maintain one single “source” then display it on separate “sites”.
