Sorry, no, it is not possible to remove because WordPress require a key/value pair in the permalink in order for it to “know” what display. In this case, the key “name” is a directory entry and the value is which one from the directory to display. The only real exception to this rule are WordPress pages/posts and categories. So, if you remove the “key” WordPress will think you will want a page/post/category and you end up getting a 404 error when it does not exist. Hope that make sense!?!
You can change the “name” slug to be almost anything you want on the Connections : Settings admin page under the Advanced tab. Just be careful what you change it to because if it conflicts with something else, then you get odd/undesirable results.
