You would only receive this error message if WordPress was unable to insert/update a record in the database. Since you mention “old version” I suspect the database structure is not correct.

Navigate to the Connections : Tools admin page and then click the System Info tab.
Scroll to the bottom and generate a remote viewing link and share that link with me. It can be posted here as a private reply.
