Yes, the Family entry type is still very much supported and is not going away…

I’m not sure what is meant by this:

“I noticed today that a newer entry that was created does not have the Family option in backend either (earlier entries do).”

You have the option of choosing an entry type at the time of creation of the entry. You also have the option of changing the entry type when editing an entry. This has not changed. Could you give further details on this issue?
