This error only has presented itself when the server was not setup with GD and image library required by WordPress to manipulate images such as scaling and cropping. Reinstalling Connections will not have an effect so it’s not needed.
Can you please confirm GD is installed on the server? ONe place to check is the Connections : Dashboard admin page in the System widget.
