If you do not want to use the translation that comes with Connections, then adding the custom Spanish translation to the wp-content folder is the only way.
The wp-content folder is a standard core WordPress folder found on your webserver which you can access via FTP. I can not be more precise than this because it depends on where and how your WordPress is installed on your webserver, sorry.
You might have overlooked this in my original reply… this is extremely important because you state; “I just want to change the “show bio” and “show map” from my Cmap template into Spanish.” This can not be done with the MO/PO files for Connections.
To change those strings in cMap follow these instructions:
There are template specific strings in cMap that would need translated but you do not need any MO/PO files. They are all translatable using shortcode options. Please see this FAQ. The complete list of str_***** option can be found on this page.
