Sorry, that would not work because you can not have links within links … you think this is not intuitive for users? Every directory I’ve ever used on the web, clicking the name was how one navigated to more details provided of course that the directory has such a feature. In a different context, that is even how WordPress blog posts work. The main page list the title with an except, clicking on the name takes one to the complete post. Please do not take these comments as being defensive… If you can point me to any directories you know that follows a different design, I’ll definitely take a look. In the end, with templates, you can really do it any way you want.
