I looked at the example site again … sometimes they change and also I need to remind myself what they did.

I looks like they did this manually. Looking at the page source it appears they created a page for each category and then used the WordPress Menu editor to create custom menus that linked to their category pages. Lastly they seem to use an accordion widget to place those custom menus in the sidebar.

Oh, the page with the table, looks like they created that manually too.

I guess the short answer is, no, you do not need to purchase anything.

There solution probably could have been simplified a little. They really didn’t need to create a page for each category as they could have used the category URL with custom links in the menu editor.
