This is unavoidable. You must give Google a method of payment to get an API key. Please take a look at their new pricing structure. You’ll get $200 of service usage a month at no cost (for now). The is roughly equal if not more favorable than the previous terms when it comes to free usage of their API. They have been emailing their users for about a year about the service changes. If you have not received any of these notifications, check you user profile settings and ensure that your email address is correct/current.
