Yes it is possible. Here’s the docs page on the doc page for the cn_address_options filter.

The method is exactly the same, but you would use the cn_date_options instead of cn_address_options.

For now, this is the only way. Later this year, you will be able to easily add custom date types on the Connections : Setting admin page under the Fieldset Configuration tab.
