Yes, there are registration plugins which support redirection after registration. Personally, on this site I use the Peter’s Login Redirect plugin. There is an option to redirect post-registration towards the bottom of its settings page. The plugin author also provides a couple code snippets with downloadable plugins you could use for first time user logins. I’d probably use the user meta version if I needed such functionality.
There are many user registration plugins and redirection plugins that provide a lot of extra functionality beyond what WP provides and most already have their process flow for user registrations worked out which is why this is not built in as options in Connections.
