Thanks for your excellent support.

I discovered the problem.

WPMUDEV Upfront themes do not support virtual pages. I think the WPMUDEV theme also broke virtual pages support on my wordpress installation in general.

So after doing a clean install of WP and installing another theme Connections is working perfectly.
