The issue is that Google is locking down the use of their Google Maps API. In order to use it, you now need a Google Account (Gmail) and enable the Maps JavaScript API and the Maps Geocoding API. After you have enabled those API in your Google Console you then need to set up a browser and server API key. These keys can be entered on the Connections : Settings admin page under the Advanced tab.

Here’s a link to another support thread/reply that has a video walkthru for enabling the Google Places API. The process is the same, but you would instead enable to two APIs I mentioned.

I am working on my own detailed how to but it is not complete yet.
